My Favorite Movie: The Lord of the Rings (Peter Jackson)

As I am passionate about cinema, I have seen many films. However, my tastes and preferences have gradually changed. Therefore if I had to choose only one today, I would choose The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson without hesitation. I will explain why.

Atmosphere and Characters

This film was adapted from a trilogy written by Tolkien. It has had a strong impact on me. First of all, I love the dark and magical atmosphere. The fantasy elements are highlighted by the magnificent landscapes. I also enjoy the variety of characters we meet. Some of them are completely ordinary, with no special powers, but they are brave and determined. Yet, others are more powerful and have fantastic attributes.

The Epic Quests

The epic quests also fascinate me. They are long, dangerous and full of obstacles. What I like about these quests is that to succeed, the characters must combine courage, sacrifice, friendship and self-improvement. These values are very important to me.

Technical Quality

As I am a film lover, I now have a more trained eye. I can notice many technical details, such as camera angles, lighting and music, which make me love this trilogy even more. In my opinion, even though these films are now almost 25 years old, their quality remains impressive. I do not think we will see such a successful adaptation of a story like this in the future.

My Favorite Book: Vermis (Plastiboo, 2024)

Now regarding my favourite book, I would like to share a very recent discovery. It is Vermis, written by an anonymous author called Plastiboo in 2024. This book is considered as a “lorebook”, as it explains everything about a fictional universe.

A Coherent Fictional Universe

Vermis looks like an old video game manual for early computers, set in a dark fantasy world. This dark and disturbing universe is one that I particularly enjoy. It takes the reader into a corrupted world where good and evil clash. What is really remarkable is that it gives many details which enhance the imagination, especially when creatures and locations are described. Moreover what is especially fascinating is that the game described in the book never actually existed.

Plastiboo created a coherent and complete fictional universe. It shows me that it is possible to write detailed descriptions without having experienced it directly. I also like this book because it is not a linear novel, but a world to explore page by page, like an old game manual.

The Thematic Link

Finally the link between The Lord of the Rings and Vermis is that they both show dark, rich and immersive worlds, which I really enjoy. I never get tired of them. I can revisit them many times and discover new connections or interpretations that were not obvious at first. I love following this kind of “thread” when watching the film or reading the book. It is always an exciting experience for me.
